How do you know what kind of video card you have on your com

Right-click on your desktop anywhere there is not an icon and the click on the bottom option on the context menu (Properties).  That will bring up the Display control panel applet.  On that applet, you should see several tabs, the rightmost of which is Settings.  Click on that tab and you will see a line in the middle that says something like "Plug and Play Monitor on ATI Radeon HD 3600 Series."  The latter part tells you the type of video card you have as far as the chipset is concerned.  In this machine's case, the chipset manufacturer is ATI and the specific chipset is actually HD3650 but that is not that critical of a detail in most cases.

Now if you are wondering what type of card you have in regard to whether it is PCI, PCI Express, PCI Express 2.0, or AGP (hopefully no older than AGP as that would be way too old for use in today's world), the easiest way is to crack open the machine if you are comfortable doing so.  If not, then let me know what type of machine you have (Dell Dimension 2400, for example) and what you learn from the Display applet and I will be able to tell you what kind of card you have or whether it is something that is built into the motherboard. copyright ybarra-cgm
