Punishing an ADHD student

For good or ill, the teacher is "mainstreaming" your child by trying to deal with her disability while holding her to the same behavior standards EVERYONE else must abide by. And as a teacher, I think that's a good idea. There are glitches that get in the way of learning, and there is simple control of one's own behavior. NEITHER should ever be excused for events that permit the child to not try. The death of her great grandmother was her occasion to learn to persevere in the face of hardship. Okay, she failed that test; don't you fail yours. Your daugher made mistakes; let her learn from the consequences of her mistakes. Insist that she shouldn't learn and she most certainly will not.
