As a general rule, AT&T has better service in more areas than T-Mobile. But T-mobile is a better deal, so if T-mobile has good service where you need service than T-mobile is the carrier you should choose. In the areas I am familiar with (most of lower Michigan) the only difference in service is with data plans, so if you don't want/need a data plan you should just go with T-mobile and save yourself some money. Also, T-mobile's @Home is a very cost effective way to have a home phone over your high speed internet connection that gets unlimited local and long distance as well as all calls to and from T-mobile cell phones do not use the cellphone's minutes.
