Why are engineers important to society?

They create solutions to problems encountered by society. I build x-ray machine for airports.

King's college london???

In addition the solution in many cases leads to manufacture and therefore in many cases create employment.

Interestingly though what the term "An Engineer" actually means some say anybody concerned in Engineering and not by technical qualification.

In relation to qualification the term "Professional Engineer" is recognised with the membership of a relevant Institution been attained.

There are many "grades/levels" of Professional Engineer from "Incorporated" (a degree not a membership requirement HNC yes plus other experience) to Chartered Engineers (Degree a requirement amongst other attributes/experience).

All Engineers are important to society regardless of stature/grade and they need each other to achieve success.

Hope this helps
