Crank Calls....did you ever make them when you were a kid?
We lived in a tiny town where everyone knew everyone, and everywhere else was long distance. All the phones where on "party lines" meaning anyone could listen in on anyone else's phone calls on that line if they wanted to, and were lucky enough to be able to intercept the call. (Strange note: you could call yourself, hang up before you heard the ring, and the phone would ring!). In any case, there were also the "phone rules". Had to get permission to use the phone, and then had to keep the calls short. I think we had a pay per minute plan or something. The town was only about 2 miles square, so the phone wasn't really important - if you wanted to see someone, you jumped on your bike and pedaled there. ybarra-cgm.com
