But overall, it was the same as it always is: the movie that "wins" is the movie that is what all those folks in the seats WISH they were. James Cameron has his award in the form of $$. But really, he puts out Terminator 2, introducing CGI, and the Academy ignores it. Now EVERYONE uses CGI. Now Cameron revolutionizes 3-D and the Academy ignores it because that's not what they want to think they are. What they want to think they are is satirized in Galaxy Quest, when the Alan Rickman character is trying (vainly) to explain to the Tim Allen character about "the craft." All those voting for best actor/actress and best picture/director are thinking of themselves as "the craft" and "drama" and yada, but what they're really about is making money and if it doesn't make money, it doesn't happen (at least, doesn't happen again.)
