Has anyone's pet cat gone through thyroid treatment?
My cat was recently treated with radioactive iodine and will not need to take any medication after the fact. The cost of the treatment was $950, which included 2 full days of boarding her there. I found this to be less cost prohibitive than pills for my cat as she still has (I hope!) a long life ahead of her. The pills would cost more over time than this treatment did.

My real answer to this is that a second opinion is a good idea. Take the cat to another vet, with a list of all symptoms. Not being able to jump could be arthritis, or it could be that he's in pain for something else. The litterbox issue could be urinary tract or some other infection that's causing him pain. See if you can get the vet who did the initial bloodwork to send the results to the second vet. (My hope is that would save you some money.) However, there is a possibility that the bloodwork from the first vet was wrong, so be prepared for that issue.

As for your mother having to give the cat a pill, there is a product called pill pockets that might help her. I've not used them but have heard of others who have had success. copyright ybarra-cgm

Whatever happens, I do wish the cat, your mother and you best wishes with the treatment. copyright ybarra-cgm
