My Dog's Eye Has Turned Blue And There Is Discharge Coming F
There may be a puncture wound or a scratch to the eye your not seeing. If there is and you do not take care of it now it can cause permanent damage to the eye, cause infection behind and inside the eye and get to the point it needs to be removed before it pops out or excruciatingly explodes. Usually a very simple and inexpensive thing to fix if you take care of it right away and isn't massive damage. A stain to determine the depth and evaluate and the proper ointment and that's usually it. Much less expensive than having the eye removed. When I send people to my favorite rescue sites (my breed is one prone to eye injury) the next thing I hear is: 'Why do so many of them have one eye', 'What happened to their eyes'. There you go. It may be your dog isn't producing enough tears and lubrication to keep the eye lubricated so it is drying out. It may be that your pup has some extra eyelashes inside the lid (distichiasis) that are rubbing and causing damage. Those need to be removed or lasered by the vet. It may be entropian, your dog's eyelid is rolled a bit and so it's rolled in and rubbing and damaging the eye and needs to be 'tacked' back down to keep it from doing that. It may be you haven't repaired a cherry eye so the gland is rubbing they eye and damaging it. copyright ybarra-cgm
Any eye problems or concerns should be seen immediately and often need to be cared for quickly as the longer they are left without any kind of help the more damage is done. It can also indicate something like glaucoma or even tumors or cancers. Taking care of it sooner is less expensive and a better chance for the scarring to heal and even go almost or completely away over time so your dog isn't seeing shadows or blind in that eye unlike a cateract that doesn't reduce or worse, has to have the eye removed. Even when you can't afford repair right away and there is some time your vet can help you lessen the damage and pain while you take that little bit of time to get everything in order. Most of those things are extremely painful as eye problems and damage are. Can you imagine getting poked in the eye every second of every day? Help your pup, see your vet. Hope your baby is feeling better soon.
